Dynamsoft has announced its SourceAnywhere 4.4 SQL server-based version-control software. Amidst a sea of source code management software offerings from vendors such as SourceSafe, Perforce, and others, the firm marks out improved file transfer performance as a key differentiator in this version.

Particularly suited to environments where file-level document management is essential, Dynamsoft's software also has a "find in files" capability to filter file searches based on file types, size, and check-in times — it can also be used to search content in a file.
These functions are designed to help developers navigate the source tree with accurate search results, and this includes results for specific lines of code containing keywords being searched.
NOTE: SourceAnywhere 4.4 can handle more than 500 concurrent global connections to provide seemingly limitless scalability.
"Local team members can now get and check out files via a LAN faster than SourceSafe or similar tools," said Amy Gu, Vice President of Dynamsoft. In addition, remote team members also have a better experience. This is because of SourceAnywhere's caching, delta transfer, and compression mechanisms."
The SourceAnywhere Cache Server is typically installed on the client side. Because of file caching, server workload is reduced and client responsiveness is improved. Cache Server can "appreciably reduce" (says Dynamsoft) the inter-communication frequency between client and server over the Internet. This is best when multiple developers are working on the same project at the same remote location.
"SourceAnywhere also works cross-platform to support large software, application, and web development teams. In addition to a GUI-based client, it can also be used within integrated development environments (IDE). These include Visual Studio, Eclipse, Dreamweaver, and other IDEs compatible with Microsoft Source Code Control Interface (MSSCCI)," said the company.
SourceAnywhere's security capabilities include built-in SSL and Blowfish encryption to protect in-transit source code. It also features password policies, database encryption, and cache file encryption. SourceAnywhere works with CruiseControl.NET and ANT to provide continuous integration and automatic build support. Version-control convenience features include email notifications; pending check-ins; shelve/unshelve; and branch/merge.
