JetBrains has this month revealed news detailing a "major release" of AppCode 3.0, the company's IDE for iOS/OS X development.
For those that need a basic reminder, AppCode 3 (as a total technology proposition) includes an "integrated" User Interface designer that works with the full component palette supported by iOS SDK.
For developing your application's UI, you can use either .xib or .storyboard formats.
With a brand new UI designer and enhanced "target management", AppCode 3.0 provides developers with a much more complete development experience.
Now included is the Reveal tool from Itty Bitty Apps. This is now integrated in AppCode via a plug-in to give more options in debugging iOS applications.
According to revealapp.com, "Reveal brings the power of tools like Firebug and Web Inspector to iOS developers. See your application's view hierarchy at runtime with advanced 2D and 3D visualisations. Debug view layout and rendering problems in seconds."
The IDE also includes many code-generation options for unit testing. In short, JetBrains says there is less switching between IDEs, and this means more productive coding.
Other important features include C++11 improvements; look-and-feel changes, such as hidden scrollbars and reworked keymaps; multiple carets and selections supported in the editor; new features 'Search everywhere' and 'Navigate to folder,' while 'Find in Path' now lets you search in string literals only or in comments only and a brand new built-in terminal.
