Electric Cloud and VMware have announced that Electric Cloud's ElectricCommander will be integrated with VMware's Lab Manager, thereby letting development organizations provision virtual machine configurations across multiple operating systems and automatically run the build, test, and deploy processes that were previously manual, disconnected, and resource-inefficient.

In typical scenarios, VMware Lab Manager will automatically set up and manage virtual machines and infrastructures, while ElectricCommander automates the software development processes that run on them. According ot the two companies, the integrated solution will deliver a "push button" environment for the software build, test, and deploy process using heterogeneous tools in virtualized environments.

One result of the toolset integration is that developers can perform "pre-build" checks before submitting projects for integrated production builds. That is, developers can perform a local build on a virtual machine to check for errors that normally would not be detected until the production build. This saves time and resources during the build and test cycle.

"Our integration with VMware will help software development and IT teams harness the power of the virtual lab to save time and improve development productivity," said Mike Maciag, Electric Cloud CEO. "We have seen increasing demand from customers looking to take advantage of virtualization for software production. We're pleased to leverage VMware technology to deliver this strategic, tightly-integrated solution."

Electric Cloud will deliver the VMware Lab Manager integration as part of an ElectricCommander release available at the end of this year.
