SpringSource introduced a new project, Spring Integration, at The Spring Experience Conference in Hollywood, Florida today. Spring Integration is a framework that simplifies the building of enterprise integration solutions without sacrificing flexibility or power. Spring Integration encapsulates the internal complexities for creating message-driven architectures. It will also provide adapters to handle integration with common input and output sources.

"As SpringSource has expanded the Spring portfolio to address a wider range of enterprise Java needs, we have become increasingly aware of the opportunity to create a solution that ties together these various projects," said Rod Johnson, CEO of SpringSource and founder of the Spring Framework. "With Spring Integration, we are aiming to provide the 'glue' that will simplify integration among the Spring portfolio products and are looking to extend the benefits of Spring to the enterprise integration realm. At the same time, SpringSource has always upheld the importance of offering developers choice, and Spring Integration will remain committed to interoperability with existing enterprise integration solutions and standards."

SpringSource will develop the framework with the other projects in the Spring portfolio to allow incremental adoption, facilitating the move toward SOA and message-driven apps. Spring Integration 1.0 is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2008.

The Spring Experience conference featured an Enterprise Integration track, which in part highlighted the new framework. SpringSource Senior Engineer Mark Fisher is the project lead for Spring Integration and a core developer for the Spring Framework. Mark gave a two-part talk on "Enterprise Integration Patterns with Spring."
