Intel has shipped more than 10 million quad-core processors, including over 3.5 million units shipped in the first quarter of 2008, according to Mercury Research.

Shipments of Intel's quad-core processors began in November, 2006 and have ramped across server and desktop segments. Intel expects to ship quad-core processors in the mobile segment in the second half of 2008. In the latest quarter, Mercury indicates roughly two-thirds of Intel's quad-core processors went into servers and the remainder went into mainstream desktop PCs.

"Intel's 10 million unit milestone reflects the benefits the rapid move to 45nm (manufacturing), allowing quad-core processors to become much more prevalent in the company's high performance product mix," said Dean McCarron, principal analyst of Mercury Research.
