A Change In the Weather, A Change

I've said before and because it sounded so good, I'll say it again -- you talk, we listen.

Over the past few months, we've talked to a lot of you about what you want in e-mail newsletters (such as this), what you like, and what you don't like. What you told us was pretty straightforward -- enough so that even the boss figured it out.

And that is that you already get too many newsletters and other assorted e-mailings in your mailbox. That what you'd really prefer was one newsletter that covered a broad range of topics, ranging from AI to ZigBee and everything in between. So that's what we've done. We've combined a whole lot of little newsletters into the Dr. Dobb's Report that your now reading.

Another change you suggested involves the frequency. Instead of receiving Dr. Dobb's Report once a week, a lot of you said you'd like to see a newsletter more often. So instead of once a week, you'll be receiving it three times a week -- Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Yes, this may sound like a lot of work for us, but that's okay. Executive Editor Kevin Carlson has too much free time on his hands and we're trying to fix that too.

With these changes, we hope to better serve you with core information that entertains and enlightens you. You made some great recomendations, and I hope you'll continue doing so. Please drop me a note with more suggestions at editors@ddj.com.

But wait, that's not the only changes. You'll notice on Dr. Dobb's Portal that we've changed the topical departments (you know, over there on the right side of the homepage). For starters, it is now alphabetically arranged. (We did that for the benefit of the boss, who was having trouble otherwise.)

We've also combined the departments into better groupings -- the High-Performance Computing department, for instance, comes from the previous 64-bit/Multicore and AI departments. Open Source now includes Linux, and so on. You get the idea. In all likelihood, we'll be shaking the categories in a few months again, based on your interest and shifts in the industry. Again, we're always looking forward to hearing from you on these changes and topics.

In conclusion, thanks for your time, support, and interest. In serving you over the past umpteen years, Dr. Dobb's, and will continue to do so as we move into the future.
