It's Official

It's "official" now. CSDN-Dr. Dobb's Software Development 2.0 conference is up and running. Well, it will be by the time you are reading this anyway. Thanks to the ins-and-outs of time zones and the confounding deadlines of publishing, you're reading this before I'm writing it--or something like that. To be truthful, I'm still trying to figure out what day it is today.
In any event, I was told by CSDN editor-in-chief Mike Meng upon arrival that I am the "official" host of the event. Which is sincerely an honor. Over dinner that first night, which was identified as the "official launch meal," Mike also explained to me the time-honored Chinese tradition that the official host pays for the official first meal. The whole explanation sounded about as fishy as the seafood on the table in front of us, but Mike seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't make up a story like that. Of course, you'd think that the "official host" with the "official credit card" would have had the option of selecting a less expensive official restaurant. But it was clear that my reputation--and penchant for cheap eats--preceded me.
The first day of the conference is packed with some of my favorite speakers--Andrei Alexandrescu will be talking about C++ and D, Ivar Jacobson will be discussing practices, and James Reinders will be examining multi-core and parallelization. I'm also looking forward to Nick Plante's talk on Ruby and Dan Theurer's presentation on web services. And that's just for starters. There are sessions on everything from Silverlight to SOA and everything in between.
And I'm grateful that Mike reminded me not to forget the Welcome Party--and my credit card--where he promised to introduce me to yet another Chinese conference tradition. Sounds like fun.
