SD West 2008: It's Just Around the Corner

In all likelihood, this is the first of several notes you'll be getting from me over the coming weeks, reminding you about the upcoming SD West 2008 conference in early March. I know that it is just around the corner because I've already had to go to several meetings about it.

Here are the details: SD West 2008, March 3-7, Santa Clara (CA) Convention Center. When you sign up, what can you expect? Well, me for one thing. I'll be hosting the Dr. Dobb's Excellence in Programming Award event on Wednesday, and the Developer's Bowl the next night. And I'll be hanging around and generally making a nuisance of myself the rest of the time.

Okay, I admit that I'm not reason enough for you to sign up. The real reason to show up is to learn from experts such as: Joshua Bloch on Java, Scott Meyers on C++, Allen Holub on security, Rick Wayne on Ruby, and Andi Gutmans on Web 2.0, among lots of others. Now I have to say one thing about Joshua Bloch's sessions: I hope to catch a session of his because if he is as good at presentations as he was at answering questions at last year's Developer Bowl...well, you're in for a good time. I'll even forgive him for breaking the button last year.

I'm also looking forward to seeing how Beautiful Code, a book edited by Andy Oram and DDJ contributing editor Greg Wilson, does in the Jolt Awards, which is hosted this year by Robert X. Cringely. Not that I have any say-so in the outcome, but the reason for my interest is that a number of the contributors to the book are DDJ authors.

So don't miss a chance to sign up early and save some money. SD West 2008. Be there or be square!
