Updated to the 3.0 version release this month is Stackato 3.0 from ActiveState. This private Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) is designed to give software application development professionals a route to getting applications to market faster and improve return on (cloud) investment.
Generally used by Agile programmers, Stackato provides developers with a deployment platform in their own private datacenter or on a virtual private cloud. It makes it "easy to develop" in any environment, plus opens up options to deploy and manage applications on any cloud.
Stackato 3.0, currently in Beta, includes a good group of changes and enhancements such as: a full merge with Cloud Foundry v2 trunk, more powerful and efficient application containers via Docker, Activity Streams for real-time communication and collaboration among team members, and new dashboards for better visibility into the management of the system.
There is also a rewritten web management console for improved performance and usability, in-place upgrades, native auto-scaling support on OpenStack and CloudStack, as well as native support for Amazon RDS.
According to the ActiveState Stackato team, "Built on Cloud Foundry v2, Stackato 3.0 gives you all of the benefits of working with an open source technology, but is an enterprise grade, commercially-supported private PaaS solution and it takes only minutes to set up."
