Version 9.1 of IBM's DB2 Viper database will handle both relational and pureXML data structures, and offers full integration with enterprise resource planning systems from SAP and other vendors. It also supports standards that allow users to fully integrate the system into service oriented architectures, IBM said.
The software is available on March 16, according to IBM.
IBM said the Viper-on-mainframe combination is already catching on with a number major institutional customers, including Citigroup and Aurora Healthcare.
On Wednesday, IBM also introduced a number new tools for DB2, including Optimization Expert and DB2 Utilities Suite. The company says all existing DB2 tools are compatible with the Z/OS version of the software.
