2012 Jolt Awards: Mobile
The rapid ascent of handheld devices as a platform for software development has created an entire industry of new tools and services. These consist of primarily two types: products that are the nuts and bolts tools for coding, testing, and debugging, and a second category of ancillary services for apps. In the latter category are products that monitor usage, push updates or ads to the deployed apps, provide cloud storage, and the like. Judging from the number of contacts we get from new vendors about their products, both categories are thriving right now. For our purposes today, however, all the products happen to derive from the first category — tools that are used in the immediate design and construction of apps.
As usual, the Jolt judges have chosen the six top products in the mobile development tools category from a large field of nominees. The winners are presented in the following slides in this order: three semi-finalists, two Jolt Productivity Award winners, and finally, the Jolt Award for the top product. The judges in the selection process were: Robert del Rossi, Gary Evans, Jonathan Harley, Chris Minnick, David Mulcahy, Mike Riley, Rick Wayne, and Alan Zeichick.
Before I ask for the envelopes, I'd like to thank Rackspace and Safari Online Books for their kind sponsorship of the Jolt Awards.
