Syncfusion Releases Essential Studio 2012 Volume 1

Mobile MVC suite to avoid "just good enough" GUIs

Windows components developer Syncfusion has released its Essential Studio 2012 Volume 1 collection of ASP.NET model view controller (MVC) controls, targeted at mobile device programmers. New controls in this release include a cross-platform grid, which supports interactive features for mobile apps normally only found on desktops.

This release expands the current mobile offering to more than 19 ASP.NET MVC controls targeted for development on iOS, Android, and Symbian. The company claims to have invested over 52,000 hours of development into its core product.

Aside from this news announcement, Syncfusion details its product's positioning on its website, saying that creating a functional UI control can take up to one year to fully test and build. This being the case, applications end up with a "good-enough" UI, says the company, which means they can end up looking outdated. "Syncfusion offers these assets out of the box — you can use them as you wish to deliver a very rich, beautiful user interface."

Syncfusion VP Daniel Jebaraj says that users will now be able to build standards-based, future-proof mobile applications that share a substantial amount of code with their current business applications. "Gartner predicts that by 2015 mobile application development projects targeting smartphones and tablets will outnumber native PC projects by a ratio of 4 to 1. Our mobile solution helps developers leverage their current assets and knowledge of development, providing a world-class mobile application experience," he said.

In addition to cutting-edge ASP.NET MVC controls, this release also provides the following:

  • A fully client-side RDL reporting engine added to the Essential Studio Reporting Edition
  • Bing Maps integration for Silverlight and WPF
  • Gantt control enhancements
