SmartBear Software's new version of TestComplete is not only a winner of a 2013 Dr. Dobb's Jolt Award, it is also newly augmented with support for automated testing of native applications on mobile devices as well as mobile web applications.
Advanced TestComplete functionality including object recognition, scripting, automatic test execution, object spy, visualizer, and reporting now apply to automated testing of mobile applications.
TestComplete 10 is built with an "open and extensible" platform that allows third-party testing tools to be tied into its framework.
The firm is understandably bullish about the mobility, and its "State of Mobile Testing 2014" report suggested that ensuring quality is the greatest challenge for mobile application developers today.
SmartBear VP of product strategy Niclas Reimertz explains the TestComplete Platform's extensibility. "With the TestComplete Platform, users can consolidate multiple testing methods and tools into one unified testing framework. For example, customers can combine manual tests, unit tests, and Selenium tests into a single test case. Additionally, when companies extend or customize application objects, they can lose the ability to automate testing of their applications."
The TestComplete Platform, with its SDK, creates a way to develop extensions that support unique testing requirements.
"It's great that TestComplete Mobile integrates so well with the Android SDK (software development kit) as well as with the rest of TestComplete 10," said Kevin Johnson, QA Lead for Compuware Corporation and a TestComplete 10 beta tester.
TestComplete 10 also offers other enhancements including support for Microsoft platform technologies including Windows 8.1 as well as support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 and Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2013, as well as updated support for Embarcadero.
