TGS Offers Open Inventor Toolkit

TGS, Inc. has announced support for the Open Inventor C++ class library recently released by SGI to the Open Source community. The agreement between SGI and TGS grants TGS the ability to supply a commercial version of the Open Inventor library. TGS will continue to develop and market the library with expanded functionality, offer maintenance for the library, and offer professional services relating to the graphics marketplace.

In addition to offering the Open Inventor toolkit across hardware platforms, TGS also offers both an enhanced version of Open Inventor and a set of Open Inventor extension libraries with the current release of Open Inventor 2.6 and 3D-MasterSuite 3.6.

Open Inventor 2.6 costs $1,850 to $3,950 for development licenses. 3D-MasterSuite 3.6 costs $2,485 to $5,900 for development licenses. Runtimes range from $750 down to $20 each. Imagix Unveils Imagix 4D r3.2

Imagix Corporation has released Imagix 4D r3.2, adding advanced software documentation capabilities to its reverse engineering tool. With r3.2, developers can automatically produce accurate, up-to-date design documents, using information located in its database and in the user's source code. Imagix 4D r3.2 supports HTML, ASCII (for simple, readable files that may be post-processed), and RTF (for files that may be imported into word processing programs for formal hard copy and design documents).

Imagix 4D r3.2 is available for PCs running Linux, Windows 95/98/NT/2000, and Unix workstations from Sun, Hewlett-Packard, and Silicon Graphics. Pricing for Imagix 4D r3.2 starts at $1,990.

Crystal Software Announces TextPipe 5.1

Crystal Software Corporation has announced TextPipe 5.1, an update of its text cleansing and transformation workbench for data warehousing, website maintenance, and electronic text processing. TextPipe 5.1 solves common data cleansing problems with exact matching, pattern matching, sounds-like matching, and new edit distance matching to cleanse typographical errors. Edit distance matching replaces a target word when the number of character swaps, inserts, or deletes from a selected word is below a chosen threshold.

TextPipe 5.1 automates complex text changes and reformatting across entire websites, source code files, and text or binary files up to 2GB. New shallow XML parsing manipulates XML files larger than available memory and allows search and replace in text subsets like line ranges, column ranges, CSV fields, tab-delimited fields, lines matching a pattern, and search results.

Bristol Technology Releases eXactML 1.2

Bristol Technology Inc. has released eXactML 1.2, a new release of their product that allows developers to XML-enable their C++ applications. eXactML 1.2 adds support for Sun Solaris SPARCompiler 4.2 and XHTML and enables C++ applications by generating object-oriented interfaces for reading and writing valid XML content based on any DTD or schema.

eXactML 1.2 supports Sun Solaris SPARCompiler 4.2 and compilers for Visual C++, Sun Visual Workshop 5.0, and RedHat Linux GCC 2.95.1. Also, eXactML 1.2 generates a parser customized to a given DTD or schema. In addition, eXactML 1.2 gives developers the ability to automatically generate C++ classes from DTDs or schemas, creating a standard, object-oriented way to rapidly use valid XML in applications.

Softwise Introduces PR-Tracker 4.30 Client/Web Server

Softwise Company has released PR-Tracker 4.30 Client/Web Server for Windows 95/98/NT/2000. PR-Tracker 4.30 Client/Web Server helps manage software development projects by tracking software bugs, action items, and change requests with problem reports. It records problem reports in a network database that supports simultaneous access by multiple users. It features classification, assignment, sorting, searching, estimation, document attachments, and email notification.

PR-Tracker 4.30 may be used over the Internet or an intranet using PR-Tracker Web Client and PR-Tracker Web Server. In addition, an HTML Report Generator has been added that allows the user to create a template to specify the layout of the HTML reports.

Aladdin Ships eToken R2

Aladdin Knowledge Systems has announced eToken R2, its USB security token. The patent-pending eToken R2 is a USB-based hardware device that can be used to encrypt information; and store user passwords, private keys, and digital certificates for authentication solutions.

About the size of a normal house key, eToken R2 is based on the DESX symmetric encryption algorithm with a key length of 120 bits. eToken R2 contains open, non-proprietary standards, making integration and security certification simpler. eToken R2 also incorporates an improved USB connector and newly designed one-piece housing, providing enhanced tamper evidence and increased reliability.

TurboPower Announces Sleuth QA Suite 2

TurboPower Software Company has announced Sleuth QA Suite 2, a new version of the company's quality assurance tools. In addition to CodeWatch and StopWatch from version 1, Sleuth QA Suite 2 offers three more tools. LineProfiler times program execution at a macro level. CoverageAnalyst tracks the number of times individual lines of a project are executed and visually indicates the portions of the project that have not been adequately tested. ActionRecorder records keyboard and mouse interactions for unattended, automated test suites.

Viosoft Releases Arriba! 1.0

Viosoft Corporation has released Arriba! 1.0, a 100-percent Java-based IDE for embedded application development. Z-World Offers Dynamic C Premier and Intellicom Series

Z-World has announced Dynamic C Premier, the newest version of the Dynamic C IDE. In addition to the functionality of the previous version, Dynamic C Premier includes a MicroC/OS-II Real Time Kernel, Fast Fourier transform, and TCP/IP capabilities. Dynamic C Premier is designed specifically for the Rabbit 2000 microprocessor.

Z-World also announced the Intellicom Series, a low-cost terminal with built-in I/O and Ethernet connectivity. Being C-programmable, the Intellicom Series provides OEMs design flexibility. The Intellicom Series offers direct connection to a 10BaseT Ethernet network and communicates with serial devices via RS-232 or RS-485.

Dynamic C Premier costs $295 and is available on CD-ROM directly from Z-World. The Intellicom Series includes two versions: the $289 Intellicom OP6700 is a full-featured display complete with Ethernet interface and 512K Flash. The $219 Intellicom OP6600 comes with 256K Flash.

MySQL AB and Sleepycat Software Unveil MaxSQL

MySQL AB and Sleepycat Software, Inc. have introduced MaxSQL, a new Open Source, high-performance, and fully transactional SQL server. MaxSQL, developed jointly by the two companies, combines the industry-standard interface of MySQL's data access language with the high-performance transaction services of Sleepycat's Berkeley DB.

MaxSQL provides the ability to perform transactions with full recoverability for committed changes. It manages databases up to 256 terabytes in size, accommodates many concurrent users, and survives power failures or system crashes without losing data.

ProtoView Development Debuts PowerChart v1.0

ProtoView Development Corporation has released PowerChart v1.0, its new Java charting component. PowerChart v1.0 is a set of integrated JavaBeans that provide 2-D and 3-D rendering of a variety of graph types to any Java application. It supports area, bar, candle, column, line, pie, stock, and surface chart types. Each type has a set of properties for controlling colors, fonts, and legends, as well as many additional display characteristics.

PowerChart v1.0 is a part of the JFCSuite and JSuite products, but is also sold separately for $695. PowerChart v1.0 can be purchased directly from ProtoView and may be purchased online at the company's website.

Aisys Introduces DriveWay Lite

Inprise/Borland Introduces Turbo Debugger

Inprise/Borland has released a free download of Turbo Debugger on its website. With this release, developers will be more productive with the free Borland C++ compiler using Turbo Debugger to track down bugs and create higher quality C++ applications.

Offering a subset of the high performance, integrated features in C++Builder 5, Turbo Debugger is a stand-alone debugger for use with the free Borland C++ compiler. Turbo Debugger can be used to control 32-bit Windows application execution and to view the different aspects of the application at run time, including program output, source code, data structures, and program values.
