Despite its open source roots, OpenLogic has taken a decisively commercial step forward this week by announcing the platform-agnostic CloudSwing, a "fully flexible" Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud solution offering cost-tracking and customization options of technology stacks.
Aiming to capitalize on the flexibility advantages of the cloud computing model, OpenLogic CloudSwing will offer a "customizable array" of infrastructure, languages, and technology stacks. This shopping cart of options will, hopes OpenLogic, give developers the flexibility they need to choose the best platforms for all cloud deployments.
Working hard to try and validate "first offering of its kind" claims, CloudSwing says that this is the only PaaS solution with built-in cost management tools to help users understand and manage their cloud costs across multiple clouds.
For enterprises and developers, CloudSwing aims to enable "complete customization" of technology stacks, including the ability to blend open source with proprietary software. CloudSwing users can pick versions of components, add new open-source components, add custom code or third-party commercial code, or create their own technology stacks from scratch.
CloudSwing will also offer cost management functionality as well as enterprise monitoring and support for cloud deployments. Using the New Relic web application performance tool for application monitoring, CloudSwing goes beyond the server- or instance-level monitoring.
