Oracle 12c and Sync Framework Now In Devart .NET

Devart has released new versions of dotConnect ADO.NET data providers, LinqConnect - LINQ to SQL compatible ORM solution, and Devart ORM designer - Entity Developer. The company itself is a database connectivity solutions specialist for Microsoft .NET and Embarcadero Delphi development platforms.

Inside dotConnect data providers there is Sync Framework support, support for Oracle 12c, an improved PgSqlDump component, and load-balancing support in dotConnect for MySQL. Entity Developer and LinqConnect now also support Oracle 12c.

So what this means for developers looking at Oracle 12c is an opportunity to use new features such as implicitly returned result sets, new connection modes (SYSBACKUP, SYSDG, SYSKM), autoincrement Identity columns, Transaction Guard, etc.

Entity Developer 5.6 generates Identity columns instead of a sequence and a trigger for when generating a database script from a model with identity columns. Entity Developer also supports new Oracle 12c connection modes when creating a connection.

The new versions of dotConnect ADO.NET providers include SyncProvider classes, classes for provisioning and deprovisioning, and SyncDescriptionBuilder classes for corresponding databases. Now users can easily synchronize their databases using Devart connectivity solutions.

With the latest version of dotConnect for MySQL, users can specify several hosts with their ports in the Host parameter of the connection string, and the data provider will switch host for each new SELECT or SHOW statement. The first host is considered the master server, and all statements, other than SELECT and SHOW, will be executed against it.

In the latest version of dotConnect for PostgreSQL the PgSqlDump component supports generating INSERT statements using the multirow VALUES syntax. Users may specify the max size of the generated INSERT statement. Besides, PgSqlDump now supports asynchronous backup and restore operations for more reliable development process.

Previously, dotConnect for SQLite offered the SQLiteDump component for backing up a SQLite database to a DDL/DML script. Now developers can use SQLite Online Backup API for backing up a database with dotConnect for SQLite.
