Oracle polishes its open source pledge once more this week with the release of the NetBeans IDE 7.1, a release aligned to update tools and libraries used for building more "sophisticated" user interfaces.
NetBeans IDE 7.1 is a free and open source IDE available for OS X, Windows, Solaris, Oracle Linux, and other Linux distributions. It acts as a building foundation for web, enterprise, desktop, and mobile applications primarily for the Java platform, but also for use with PHP and C/C++.
NetBeans IDE 7.1 is the first IDE to support the latest specifications and standards in the Java platform, including full development support for JavaFX 2.0 and JDK7.
The latest release also offers support for the newly announced Oracle WebLogic Server 12c, bringing Java Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 6 support to developers creating applications on the Oracle WebLogic Server platform.
As a willing "customer prepared to go on the record," Wojciech Zwiefka is CTO of the Polish web portal Wirtualna Polska. "We use NetBeans to create web applications using the Java EE platform, as well as PHP, JavaScript, and Ajax. We really appreciate the IDE's out-of-box plugins, especially its first class support for Git and Maven. We take advantage of numerous features, such as the profiling and refactoring tools, which help us debug and maintain dozens of our applications," Zwiefka said.
The software also comes with a visual debugger for Swing and JavaFX for identifying (and helping to subsequently resolve) buggy code issues holding up deployment.
