New Approaches To Transactional Management In The Cloud

GigaSpaces is now taking its virtualized application platform technology to market alongside CloudTran's transaction management middleware in the form of a new product packaged up as GigaSpaces eXtreme Application Platform (XAP). The resulting Java-based solution will be targeted at large database infrastructures in all cloud environments.

GigaSpaces XAP and CloudTran are aiming to capitalize on what the companies describe as the "new approaches to transactional management" that are needed for building scalable apps on the cloud. Enabling responsive transaction processing over the largest distributed and cloud computing environments, the combined XAP-CloudTran infrastructure is vying for a place within public clouds, private clouds, and hybrid combination.

"GigaSpaces XAP is an end-to-end virtualized application platform featuring an in-memory data grid that can manage terabytes of data. Its infrastructure ensures high-speed processing with millisecond latency, while providing automatic failover," said Tom Henn, president and CEO of CloudTran.

CloudTran provides a data modeling tool and a transaction manager that implements ACID (atomicity, consistency, isolation, durability) transactions, and integrates the Gigaspaces in-memory grid and persistent data stores. CloudTran also provides hot failover recovery, which rebuilds data within the Gigaspaces’ grid if a node fails.
