Mashery goes so far as to suggest that enterprises are increasingly treating APIs as full-fledged products and setting targets for revenue, reach, and branding. If this is the case, then Mashery API Packager may prove useful in terms of letting IT departments retain control over API governance and operations, while reducing the burden on IT staff during API partnering processes.
"When engineers are relieved of coding partner and internal API integrations, enterprises can more quickly turn partnership deals into partnership implementations," suggests Mashery's Chris Lippi. "Mashery API Packager delivers this efficiency without reducing IT control. For a product team, it's API Nirvana — launch immediately, without additional engineering investment."
Mashery API Packager supports enterprises in which API management is no longer solely an IT function and has been successfully used by social influence network Klout. "By giving us control over which pieces of our APIs fit together, API Packager lets us easily configure our API to target everything from casual deployments (like widgets) to robust integrations like Salesforce," said Klout developer evangelist Tyler Singletary.
With a central proposition to be able to offers tools for both technical and business-side API managers, Mashery API Packager can be used to create packages of API methods and response filters for partners. It also helps offer API packages through a public instance of Mashery Partner Portal for self-service registration and key provisioning — access can also be moderated privately.
