Developer Staffing Survey: Needs Outstrip Supply
, September 04, 2012 An InformationWeek survey shows IT managers expect that developers with the needed skills will be hard to find for a while yet.
Shortage of developers somewhat retards technology adoption.
Surprisingly, the difficulty in finding the needed programming talent has slowed adoption of newer technologies in only a minority of organizations. Just less than 40% of IT organizations have been forced to slow plans due to the shortage of skilled developers. Most have moved forward anyway. I expect that many of those companies have used contract programmers to fill the gap and will either continue to pay a premium for contract services or will back-fill with the skills later.
