Red Hat has announced the general availability of OpenShift Enterprise. This represents an enterprise-ready PaaS product designed to be installed on-premise within customer datacenters or private, public, or hybrid clouds.

For programmers there could be interesting news here: The product enables the streamlining and standardization of developer workflows with the aim of "facilitating increased IT service delivery velocity" in production.
OpenShift Enterprise provides enterprise users with access to a cloud-based application platform to build applications and have them run in a cloud architecture. It automates much of the provisioning and systems management of the application platform stack in a way that supports the IT operations team when it comes to rolling out new application services.
Also for programmers, OpenShift Enterprise provides an on-demand and elastic fully configured application development, testing, and hosting environment for application developers so that they can focus on coding these new application services.
OpenShift Enterprise is built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, and OpenShift Origin, the basis for Red Hat's existing online OpenShift PaaS service that has been available in a free beta since May 2011. With the inclusion of JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6, OpenShift Enterprise becomes the only Java EE 6-certified on-premise PaaS available to enterprises today.
"Developers are now able to choose among leading application development languages and tools for the job, and IT operations leaders can choose to deliver these application stacks to their enterprise on their choice of clouds in compliance with their security, governance, and compliance requirements. This offering stands to revolutionize how enterprises use PaaS platforms," said Ashesh Badani, general manager for the cloud business unit and OpenShift at Red Hat.
