In a recent blog posting, Microsoft made public its intention to move the F# programming language out of the realm of research and fully integrate the language into the Visual Studio environment.
Developed at Microsoft Research, the F# language shares many design features with OCaml, and therefore offers a foundation in functional programming, yet attempts to capitalize on object-oriented concepts and be a multi-paradigm language in the .NET context.
According to his blog posting, Microsoft VP S. Somasegar sees the language's "somewhat mathematical slant" finding it a home in the domains of "financial, scientific and technical computing."
