Making a continued play in the enterprise Java space this month is Telerik with the latest release of its Kendo UI framework for building websites and mobile apps with HTML and JavaScript.
In this end of year release, Kendo UI adds interactive HTML5-based financial charts to Kendo UI DataViz as well as "accessibility improvements" in Kendo UI Web.
Additionally, we now see the introduction of Java server-side wrappers, which enable Java developers to use server-side programming skills to build sites that can tap into Kendo UI's client-side capabilities and cross-browser HTML5 compatibility.
Telerik's Todd Anglin talks of this being a "milestone" for enterprise developers interested in adopting HTML5. "We've brought our expertise building developer tools to the huge community of Java enterprise developers, while simultaneously adding critical features that make HTML5 ready for enterprise projects," he said.
A key piece of the Kendo UI winter release is the addition of interactive HTML5-based financial charts to Kendo UI DataViz. This enables developers to present complex financial data in interactive charts that users can zoom, pan, and manipulate on desktop computers and mobile devices. The firm suggests that by using these enhancements, developers can quickly present enterprise financial data in hardware-accelerated dashboards ready to support both touch and mouse input.
This release also introduces beta server wrappers for Java developers. The hope here is that programmers will be able to maximize productivity, while creating apps with HTML and JavaScript, by leveraging existing server-side JSP programming skills to configure and interact with Kendo UI.
