Resolving Nightmare Bugs With Reversible Linux App Debugger


Linux and Android development specialist Undo Software and ARM have entered into an agreement to integrate UndoDB in ARM DS-5 Development Studio.

UndoDB is somewhat grandly classified as "the only" C/C++ Linux reversible debugger with the required performance to be of practical use in the real world.

Despite these grandiose self-plaudits, UndoDB can indeed record everything that any Linux program does and then allow developers to "wind the tape back and forth" to hone in on their bug. The performance impact of UndoDB is said to be minimal, with execution thousands of times faster than other software-based implementations.

"From embedded to mobile and servers, the adoption of Linux and its variants continues to rapidly grow across many of ARM's market segments," said Hobson Bullman, deputy general manager, System Design Division, ARM.

"The integration of Undo's high-performance reversible debugging technology into DS-5 Development Studio tool suite significantly reduces the cost associated with hunting down complex bugs in Linux systems, without relying on external debug or trace hardware."
