Although it is arguably hard to read the name Skytap Incorporated without thinking about fictional self-aware artificial intelligence systems, one should actually focus on the firm's self-service application development environments in the cloud.
The Skytap Cloud built on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure gives software application developers development and test environments that mirror AWS production environments, while utilizing the tools and solutions already used by development teams — such as Jenkins, Microsoft Team Foundation Server, and IBM Rational Team Concert.
With this release, Skytap now supports both native AWS and VMware workloads.
Skytap says its focus on development and testing means support for on-demand deployment of complex compute and networked environments to dev/test teams.
"Rapid devs want to deliver major applications in weeks, days if possible," wrote John Rymer and James Staten, both analysts at Forrester Research. "They see public cloud platforms as a fresh start with the potential to yield massive gains in the quantity, velocity, and quality of application delivery."
"With Skytap Cloud built on AWS, enterprise customers leverage Skytap's ALM integrations to enable turnkey continuous integration on AWS infrastructure," said Brian White, vice president of products at Skytap. "Developers, testers, and IT professionals now have the features and services they need to build and deliver better software faster within a closed-loop Skytap to AWS environment."
Developers can sign up for a free beta trial of Skytap Cloud on AWS, which provides full functionality and access to Skytap Cloud service and AWS infrastructure.
