Trend Micro is attempting to woo new customers in the open source space by announcing the first of what the company says will be "many" applications planned for the Android platform.

Trend Micro Mobile Security for Android protects digital files and secures banking transactions on Android devices by identifying and stopping cybercriminals and online threats before they can attack. With a relatively small installation space requirement, the product features safe surf options, parental controls, download protection, and call and text filtering.

"Trend Micro has a proven track record of being a long-time leader in the mobile security market, from protecting Windows Mobile 2003 devices to our recent Trend Smart Surfing iPhone application," said Carol Carpenter, general manager of Trend Micro consumer and small business. "With the Android platform's rapid growth, cybercriminals will be rushing to take advantage of these mobile devices anyway they can.

Currently, Trend Micro is the only company that uses cloud-based security intelligence to protect Android devices from the latest threats. Custom filtering lists enable users to screen or block unwanted calls or messages. Trend Micro Mobile Security for Android is available in the Android Market.
