Almost two months after Intel announced it's latest low-power Xeon processors, Processor maker AMD today continued the industry-wide march toward high-performace, low-power-consumption processors by announcing the availability of five new quad-core Opteron processors, all carrying the "HE" moniker, denoting "Highly Efficient" operation.
The new processors range from the 2344 HE ($209), meant for systems with up to two processors, to the 8347 HE ($873), which is intended for systems with four or more processors.
The new Opterons have significantly lower thermal envelopes (55-Watt) than previous Opterons, which operate in the 75- to 105-Watt range.
