NS BASIC Updates Dev Tool for Symbian

NS BASIC has released an upgrade to its NS Basic/Symbian software development toolset that adds support for the Nokia 5800 and its touchscreen, letting you write BASIC programs on the desktop, then downloading them to mobile device. NS Basic/Symbian OS 1.1 has improved screen rendering and gradient buttons, and added Italian languages the IDE supports.

"The Nokia 5800, with more than a million units shipped, is one of the fastest selling smartphone devices in history." said NS BASIC's George Henne. "Now, the easiest way to create apps for Nokia smartphones is also one of the first to provide touchscreen support."

NS Basic/Symbian OS has a Visual Basic look-and-feel. It is a standalone development tool, featuring:

  • Standard and structured BASIC
  • Support for Symbian OS S60 3rd & 5th Edition and UIQ3 devices
  • Over a dozen built in screen objects
  • Buttons, fields, popups and more
  • TCP/IP communications
  • Math and trigonometric functions
  • Royalty free distribution of applications you create
  • Runs on Windows 2000, XP and Vista
  • IDE in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese

The product includes an IDE with a graphic design screen, powerful code editor, compiler and installer generator. It is a complete development environment with a total download of about 10 MBs. No additional SDKs are needed.
