The JPEG 2000 Image Coding Standard

The JPEG 2000 is a new image coding standard that specifies only the decoding algorithm and the compressed data format—the encoder algorithm is deliberately left up to you.

Table 1: JPEG and JPEG 2000 encoding and decoding times for the image in Figure 4 at a 96 to 1 compression ratio. For JPEG 2000, results with both DWT filters, reversible and irreversible, are reported. Meaningful encoding times for the reversible filter cannot be calculated with the JPEG 2000 VM software.
