openMosix is an open-source Linux kernel extension for single-system image clustering and is scalable and adaptive. There is no need to program applications specifically for openMosix. Since all extensions are inside the kernel, every application automatically and transparently benefits from the distributed computing concept. The cluster behaves as does an SMP, but this solution scales to over a thousand nodes, which can themselves be SMPs.
