Quick Links: RS232 Networking
Recently I was shopping for a serial to Ethernet solution. There's quite a few “boxes” that perform this task, but I was shopping for something to embed in another device without surgery. Of course, I have a bunch of TINI board which can do the job (a byproduct of my Embedded Internet book). A cheap single board PC or PC/104 board would to the trick too. But I figured there had to be some ready-built solutions out there. Here's what I found:

But I figured there had to be some ready-built solutions out there. Here's what I found:
- http://www.netburner.com – Core modules available for integration.
- http://www.lantronix.com – Tiny package. Some versions actually run Linux.
- http://www.luminarymicro.com/products/mdl-s2e.html – TI's answer is based on an ARM processor.
- http://www.digi.com/products/embeddedsolutions/embeddedmodules.jsp – Several choices that seem to be embeddable.
- http://www.tibbo.com/products/modules/compare.html – Requires a second board for the network jack; programmable in BASIC.
- http://www.moxa.com/Event/Tech/2009/MiiNePort_eDM/index.htm – Another small device that looks like a network jack.
- http://www.ewiznet.com/ - Several low cost options for RS232 and SPI.
I'm sure there are plenty of others, but that gave me enough to make a selection.
