JavaOne: OpenSolaris Binaries at opensolaris.com
January 03, 2008
At CommunityOne/JavaOne this week, Sun announced the first OpenSolaris 2008 binary distribution. Prior to this, Sun offered OpenSolaris in source form, where binaries were available through other community members and projects, such as project Indiana (opensolaris.org/os/project/indiana). Going, forward, you can visit opensolaris.com for the latest OpenSolaris news and releases.
OpenSolaris 2008.05 features LiveCD technology, which allows you to experience OpenSolaris immediately without installing the operating system. Simply boot from the CD, like you would with Knoppix or other similar Linux distributions, and you're ready to try OpenSolaris. When you're ready, you can start the installation with a single click and add software via the new Image Packaging System (IPS) over the Internet.
Check it out at opensolaris.com. This is in addition to the community-led OpenSolaris development site, opensolaris.org.
