Open source IT monitoring software company Opsview has launched Opsview Mobile. This tool is positioned as a means of checking the health of on-premises, virtualized, and cloud-based systems.

Initially available as a free application from Android Market, Opsview Mobile can be used by developers, sys-admins, and unit testers who upgrade to the newly released Opsview Community 3.13 IT monitoring tool.

"With Opsview Mobile, we aim to make it easier to manage business services and IT performance from anywhere in the world," said James Peel, product manager at Opsview. "Unlike many third-party mobile IT monitoring solutions, our app has been developed by the same team that has built our core platform, which ensures tight integration with Opsview Community edition."

Opsview Mobile is being released inside the Opsview Community edition and the latest version (3.13) has the necessary updates for the company's Rest API. These updates will be tested by the user community and then will be filtered into the next release of the company's Enterprise edition product.

"This first version of Opsview Mobile is free and on Android only, but we are likely to have an Enterprise-only version that will support the iPhone in due course," the company claims.

Key features of the first-generation Opsview Mobile product include as dashboard view option, 'traffic light' notifications (to display host and service statuses), and alert tracking to track the number of handled and unhandled alerts, displaying the status of the 'worst' performing host or service per host group.

Opsview Community 3.13 is the latest release of the company's open source IT monitoring tool. In addition to the new APIs for Opsview Mobile, the new version brings a number of new automation enhancements and incremental improvements as result of feedback from Opsview's user community.
