Aiming to continue its stewardship of the Java language and platform with a keen eye on Enterprise Edition (Java EE), SOA, and Web 2.0 application development, Oracle has announced the Oracle JDeveloper 11g Release 2 IDE.
Key updates in this release center on an improved Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with support for new standards, as well as updates to Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) 11g. Part of the company's "Fusion" middleware brand, Oracle JDeveloper is designed to aid the development of Java-based SOA applications and user interfaces with support.
Updates to Oracle ADF 11g include new support for JavaServer Faces 2.0 and Facelets standards — technologies that provide visual editing environments for Java EE web developers. There is also improved support for emerging technologies including:
- RESTful Web Services — Simplifies the use of REST services as data sources in Oracle ADF.
- Maven — Integrated development and runtime environment for Maven-based build processes.
- Hudson — Integrated support for the Hudson continuous integration server through Oracle Team Productivity Center (TPC).
"Web application and Java developers continue to seek the latest advancements in standards and easy-to-use tools," said Ted Farrell, chief architect and senior vice president, Oracle. "Oracle JDeveloper 11g Release 2 delivers state-of-the-art capabilities that enable developers to achieve an immense productivity boost and are essential to enable the creation of the most immersive and vibrant web applications."
Finally, Oracle has also updated ADF JavaServer Faces Rich Client Components, the company's framework for building rich Internet applications (RIAs) so that it now supports JavaServer Faces 2.0 and introduces new features such as interactive thematic maps.
