BMC Software's latest card in the application performance management (APM) market is best described as "a single operations management framework" for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and cloud apps.
Aiming to "anticipate and proactively address" app performance management requirements, BMC is somewhat predictably using the "360-degree view" tagline to describe its approach to app performance and end-user experience monitoring.
At a more granular layer, the company does specify that it is focused on the application, middleware, and infrastructure layers inside the data center.
"The ability to link a strong end-user experience monitoring platform with a solid behavior learning engine is particularly welcome to application support and IT operations teams," said Will Cappelli, research vice president at Gartner.
"A new generation of APM tools is emerging to address the increasingly complex, diverse, and dynamic computing infrastructures and applications in today's computing environments. Application performance monitoring solutions that feature proactive diagnostics, extensive analytics, and end-user experience monitoring provide the best resource for IT departments managing business-critical applications and environments," added Cappelli.
BMC is aiming to differentiate itself in the APM space with proactive problem detection based on behavioral learning. The backbone of BMC's current technology proposition is rapid problem diagnosis through advanced correlation of the end-user experience and continuous collection of deep diagnostics and transaction tracing data.
"Application performance, availability, and SLA adherence are the heart of business-critical computing success — especially for modern, composite applications that span distributed, mainframe, public and private cloud, or SaaS architectures, and are accessed via a variety of mobile devices," said Kia Behnia, chief technology officer for BMC.
