VMware and Novell have announced the general availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware as part of the companies' expanded partnership, which was announced in June of 2010. This new product launch is designed to accelerate customer evolution towards using a fully virtualized data center.
Under the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware offering, customers who purchase a VMware vSphere license and subscription also receive a subscription for patches and updates to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware. Additionally, VMware will offer the option to purchase technical support services for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware.
Novell says that SUSE Linux Enterprise Server has nearly 6,000 application certifications and that by partnering with VMware, both companies intend to provide customers the ability to port their SUSE Linux-based workloads across clouds.
"This partnership gives VMware and Novell customers a simplified and lower-cost way to virtualise and manage their IT environments, from the data centre to fully virtualised data centres," says Novell's Joe Wagner.
