Apache Subversion-focused software company WANdisco has announced uberSVN, a new product intended to "transform" the popular source code management system into an extensible platform that the company says will empower developers with a wider choice of toolsets.
uberSVN gives the developer freedom to choose any combination of software development tools that best fits their business requirements. Toolset choice can be based on price or functionality, the use of open or closed source proprietary applications — and there is no vendor lock-in. The product is freely available, but professional support is available from WANdisco.
WANdisco already has an extensive list of companies using its Enterprise Subversion solutions, so along with WANdisco's active participation and sponsorship of the Apache Subversion project, the company claims to be doing more than any other single vendor to contribute to the functionality of this visionary platform.

Now uberSVN gives Subversion users what they want — an easy-to-use product that they can extend, however they choose, whenever they want."
Looking at the product more closely, it appears that uberSVN turns Subversion into an open, extensible platform for ALM that is easy to install, easy to use, and easy to extend. The concept is that uberSVN is a platform in the sense that it enables developers to take a set of disparate applications and, by providing the right packaging and integration, to deliver a complete solution.
uberSVN is organized around development teams and their activities. Each development team has its own home page that profiles the team members, lists the projects they're working on, repositories they're using, and their latest activity and status. Managers are able to see real-time progress by simply subscribing to Twitter-like feeds.
uberSVN is built on top of WANdisco's pure certified Subversion binaries that have been put through the same rigorous testing as the company's Enterprise Subversion solutions that support the world's largest Subversion deployments.
