Audio communications company Plantronics has created a developer community to help foster interest in building applications with context-aware data-compliant with its smart headsets and devices. The Plantronics Developer Connection includes technical resources, forums, and APIs provided through a new SDK for Windows environments.

The company's CTO Joe Burton has said that the "next wave of productivity" will be driven by contextually aware applications that speed business processes and workflows. As such, his firm's headsets have been developed with the capability to collect contextual information and present it to applications in an easy-to-integrate manner.
"We are opening APIs to this information so the software development community can create innovative and useful applications that leverage contextual intelligence from Plantronics," said Burton.
The concept here hinges around the opportunity for devices to be able to communicate an abundance of data about a person's location, activities, and availability while they are communicating.
"Developers will now be able to create context-aware applications that will be able to anticipate or take action, to provide better experiences through the information generated by intelligent Plantronics devices with Smart Sensor technology," said the company.
Developers are offered the tools needed to create these smarter, context-aware applications through the Plantronics Developer Connection. By accessing the information from Plantronics devices, developers can incorporate presence, availability, proximity, and caller information into their existing applications or create a new segment of smarter applications. Incorporating this information could result in more intelligent and intuitive human-to-device experiences.
