Software productivity tools company JetBrains has announced the general availability of its code-centric web IDE WebStorm 2.0, a product which acts as a JavaScript/HTML editor to suggest JavaScript-specific code optimizations, quick-fixes, and refactorings. WebStorm 2.0 also provides Zen-coding support and DOM-based auto-completion for HTML/CSS coding environments.
"We work to provide developers with tools to stay on top of the web's fast-evolving standards. In this release we focused on adding support for the latest JavaScript specification -- ECMAScript 5, HTML 5, LESS, and SASS extensions for CSS," said Maxim Mossienko, project lead at JetBrains. "We have also continued to improve the environment itself by redesigning the UI and making it easier to work with issue trackers and version control systems right from the IDE."
The key changes in WebStorm 2.0 include support for ECMAScript 5: "use strict", a JavaScript libraries organizer to provide sophisticated JS code-completion, a leaner offering for CSS (LESS) and SASS/SCSS extensions for CSS, better Git integration, added Mercurial support, and Relax NG for XML.
The company offers a 30-day evaluation from its website and says that separate personal and commercial licenses are available. Each license includes free WebStorm updates for 1 year after the purchase date, covering major new releases.
