Cell phone maker Nokia has entered into an agreement to purchase the Oslo-based Trolltech, makers of the Qt toolkit and the Qtopia mobile stack. The deal is intended to enhance Nokia's cross-platform development strategy, and to leverage open-source involvement in Qt development, adding another layer of compatibility to Nokia's platforms.
According to a statement from Trolltech:
"Nokia aims to continue the development of Trolltech's products and support of new and existing customers. Nokia strives for an open approach to technology that will encourage and support innovation in the industry, enable fast adoption of new technologies and advance healthy competition. Nokia embraces open source technology and will take further the open source development culture found in Trolltech."
Qt is the foundation of KDE, a popular desktop environment for Linux.
