2014 Developer Salary Survey
, May 13, 2014 Our survey of more than 2,200 U.S. developers shows salaries in a well-paid field are nudging up as the economy picks up steam.
For the first time in several years, ageism is not an immediately obvious factor in salary results. In years past, staff salaries froze or shrank pas the age of 45. In this survey, we see progress: recognition that older hands can enjoy a higher salary in exchange for their longer experience. This would be a welcome trend for all developers who continue to be passionate about their craft and have no intention of moving on to retirement pasture. Only managers over the age of 55 saw a decline in compensation. This might be due to the amount of change going on in data centers today an almost unprecedented wave of new technologies with new demands and the perception that older managers might not be ideally suited to responding to those new shifts.
