The Kermit Project at Columbia University has released Kermit 95 2.0, a secure, scriptable, customizable terminal emulation and file transfer program for Windows. It comes with 40 different terminal emulations including VT320, Linux console, ANSI, SCOANSI, HP, IBM, Wyse, and TVI; with colors, key mapping, 2 million line scrollback, URL hot spots, and character set conversion including Unicode. It also includes Kermit, FTP, and XYZMODEM file transfer, and numeric and alphanumeric paging. Any complex or routine communications or data transfer task can be automated though its built-in script programming language.

eXcelon has released Stylus Studio 4.0, a development environment for creating, validating, and debugging XSL stylesheets and XML-to-XML mappings. It contains a visual schema diagram editor that eases the creation and modification of XML Schema. It provides synchronized views of source XML Schema--a tree view and the XML Schema diagram--that enable you to work with XML Schema at multiple levels. In addition, Stylus Studio 4.0 supports Xalan-J based debugging; and is the only XML/XSLT IDE with back mapping, which associates a defect with the related piece of XSLT source code to automate the process of debugging XSLT applications. Also from eXcelon is the Verity Search add-on for its native XML DBMS, the extensible Information Server (XIS), which lets you integrate unstructured corporate information with structured XML data that can then be leveraged and extended by applications both inside the enterprise and beyond.

Parasoft has announced WebKing 3.5, a comprehensive testing tool that automates elements involved in developing, deploying, and maintaining reliable, multitier web sites. The new version automatically analyzes server log files, and then creates virtual users that mimic actual user paths and traffic patterns; it also introduces features that automate both SOAP testing and other test scenarios. Other new features include a CodeWizard for WSDL tools that validates WSDL; a Java test tool that allows testing of applets, .class files, .java files, and JSPs; and an HTML cleanup tool that fixes overlapping tags, invalid attributes, and problems with the overall document structure. WebKing 3.5 is available for Windows NT/2000/XP, Linux, and Solaris.

Cytron Research has released Visual VCL Pack1 for Delphi and C++Builder. It provides for over 30 VCL components and classes, 17 of which are design-time controls. The pack includes two development kits, one for designing custom combo boxes, the other for the creation of custom dictionaries and multilingual spell checkers. The Combo box kit includes examples such as a Tree View combo box as well as a calculator combo box. It also comes with utility controls, including a binary streaming control, a stringlist streaming control, and a file storage control. In addition, the utility controls also include a 128-bit encryption control.

The J Consortium has announced that the JEFF standard (ISO/IEC 20970) is publicly available in both electronic and hard-copy formats through national standards bodies. The J Consortium-sponsored standard cuts the requirements for embedded run-time memory and makes the storage of Java-language programs twice as small as the usual class file format, without any compression.

Red Gate Software has released ANTS Enterprise Edition and ANTS 1.5, new software for load, scalability, and stress testing of .NET web applications and XML web services. ANTS Enterprise Edition is a large-scale application designed to test applications for hundreds to hundreds of thousands of users; and ANTS 1.5 is designed for web applications for fewer than 100 concurrent users. Both products support testing based on SOAP. ANTS 1.5 and Enterprise Editions provide the following new features: ability to test for custom classes in web services, secure socket support for recording and playing back scripts that access HTTP web sites, and support for HTTP 1.1.

GlowCode 4.0 is a diagnostic toolset for C++ and Windows programmers. It attaches itself to any running program and isolates performance bottlenecks, traces program execution, finds unexecuted code, and detects memory and resource leaks. In Version 4.0, you have access to heap allocation/free counts at each node in the execution call tree. Also, GlowCode 4.0 provides new profile, report, and trace details windows that list all callers and callees of a function, along with count and time metrics. In addition, GlowCode is a template that makes it easy to select the functions to hook. Using the * and ? wild characters, you can specify which functions to include or exclude based on a function's module, file, and function name.

Pacific Software Publishing has released PS.NewsMail III security update, build E. PS.NewsMail III is an application for Windows NT/2000 IIS servers that enables e-mail broadcasting to multiple e-mail accounts. It is operated through a web browser. The security update improves the following: encryption of mailing lists, e-mail addresses, and user information; possible workgroup number is expanded from 100 to 999; faster login speed; SSL support; and the ability to send e-mail in HTML or plain text format.

Crossware has released a starter kit for the Atmel range of flash microcontrollers, which includes an evaluation board fitted with an Atmel T89C51RD2 microcontroller, a header cable that allows it to function as an in-circuit debugger, and a 4-KB version of Crossware's 8051 Development Suite.
