Perforce Software has announced the latest release of its defect tracking gateway (P4DTG), which now includes configured integrations with the JIRA proprietary issue tracking product from Australian development house Altassian on the one hand, as well as the Redmine open source project management and bug tracking tool on the other.
Perforce is trying to use these developments as a strategic move to absorb as much of JIRA's reputation as a popular issue tracking and project tracking tool as it can. The company is therefore adding all the technology required to implement an integrated solution between Perforce and JIRA itself. Equally, the presence of Redmine alongside JIRA means that both technologies now join HP Quality Center and Bugzilla in the fully supported lineup of integrations included in P4DTG.
"Adding JIRA and Redmine to the growing list of integrations we support is part of our ongoing commitment to make it as simple as possible for our customers to work with the tools they want," said Dave Robertson, VP International for Perforce Software.
Perforce says that P4DTG includes two primary components, a graphical configuration editor and a replication engine. The visual configuration editor maps fields between the defect tracking system and Perforce. The replication engine coordinates the propagation of data between Perforce and the defect tracking system. The system supports the one-way or bi-directional synchronization of data. Changelist information, describing the work done and files changed while addressing a job, can also be replicated to the defect tracking system.
P4DTG is included in Perforce Server version 2010.2. There are no special licenses to purchase, install, or configure. This offer includes free technical support during evaluation.
