Multi-Channel Mobile Developers Need MBaaS, Right?

Not to be confused with Sony, Orlando-based developer of mobile, tablet, desktop, and kiosk applications Kony has released its new Mobile Backend-as-a-Service (MBaaS).

The software on offer here is a set of pre-built multi-channel packaged mobile apps that tool up with the firm's own snazzily named Kony Multi-Channel Experience Cloud.

Essentially this is a set of integrated cloud services for developers to push mobilization migration at usual suspect business processes such as CRM, human resources, field services, and asset management.

"By 2017 [all of the planet's] mobile apps will be downloaded more than 268 billion times, generating revenue of more than $77 billion and making mobile apps one of the most popular computing tools for users across the globe," said Gartner's Van Baker. "To help organizations capitalize on this opportunity, they need to rethink development operations by introducing agile development solutions that are built around short cycles and frequent release of simple, purpose-built apps."

With Kony, developers can use open standards-based development — the MBaaS enables developers to use their choice of client development tools and frameworks (including native iOS, Android, JavaScript, and PhoneGap) that, in theory, reduce cost and complexity when using Kony's own open cloud services, which include identity management, push messaging, offline data synchronization, orchestration, and storage.

In addition, Kony MBaaS claims to simplify Line of Business integration with popular systems such as SAP and Salesforce.com, while a web-based portal offers access to configure and manage all the services the app needs. The cloud-ready packaged mobile business apps now include built-in offline sync support.
