Developer Staffing Survey: Needs Outstrip Supply
, September 04, 2012 An InformationWeek survey shows IT managers expect that developers with the needed skills will be hard to find for a while yet.
New hires are only one solution.
The reason that the unsatisfied need does not translate into larger increases in developer salaries is shown in this slide, which describes how managers intend to address the shortage. Nearly three-quarters of respondents expect to combine retraining of current staff with various amounts of contracting and new hiring. Only 6% of sites expect to handle their needs without hiring or contracting.
