Johnniac Open Shop System

Rand Corporation's Johnniac Open Shop System (JOSS) of 1963 used an interactive calculator language that was easier to understand than most languages in use at the time. The timesharing device provided fast answers to up to eight users at keyboard consoles, a marked contrast to the long waits required for batch processing on most computers of the day.
